Monument is the result of one month of continuous work in the summer of 1991. The PDP-11/DMX-1000 computer configuration at the Institute of Sonology’s Computer Studio 1 was used to run Barry Truax’s POD programs for realtime FM and granular synthesis.
After having struggled with a detailed, graphically notated score for more than a year, the music was composed practically in realtime by gradually layering sound material onto analogue eight-track tape without following a pre-conceived form plan.
Monument was premiered at the occasion of the 1992 Sound & Space Festival in Stockholm, Sweden.
Paul Berg was very helpful.
